Video Details

Size: Video entries must be two minutes or shorter, and no more than 100MB in size.

Format: Videos from digital cameras, camcorders, and phones are all acceptable if they are in .wmv, .avi, .mov, or .mpg format. Please avoid filming any copyrighted material such as music, logo-apparel, etc.

Note: Youtube can accept any video format but suggests these as ideal:

  • Video Format: H.264, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 preferred
  • Aspect Ratio: Native aspect ratio without letterboxing (examples: 4:3, 16:9)
  • Resolution: 640x360 (16:9) or 480x360 (4:3) recommended
  • Audio Format: MP3 or AAC preferred
  • Frames per second: 30

Language: All entries must be in English (no subtitles).

Privacy: If you are under 18 years old (and probably even if you’re older) don’t use your full name or contact information in your video. Using your first name, the city you live in, and the school you or your children attend (or want to attend) are all fine.

How to Create a YouTube Account

  1. Sign up for an account at YouTube.com if you don’t already have one.

    Once you’re on the video file upload page, clck the “browse” button to search your computer for your video. Once found, select the file and click “upload video”. While your video is uploading, fill out the form with the video’s title, decription and any one word descriptive tags. Under Category you can choose “Education” and under Privacy leave as “Share your video with the world” then press “Save Changes”.
  2. Drag your cursor over your user name in the upper right hand corner and click on “My Videos”. Depending on the size of your video it may take a few minutes for YouTube to process it before it’s viewable.

    Once you see that your video is ready, click on “Edit” and scroll down until you see the area titled “Comments” and click on the radio button that says “Don’t allow comments” then press “Save Changes” at the bottom. Then go back up to your user name at the top at click on “My Videos” again from the dropdown menu. When you get to the “My Videos” section click on the thumbnail or name of your recently uploaded video to view it.
  3. When your video comes up for viewing, go to the area to the left of your video where it shows the title, your user name and description of your video. Copy the html code in the form window tiled “URL” and send to us when you fill out the Entry Form on this website. When we receive this code we’ll post your video on the Oregon School Choice Contest YouTube group page.

Problems With Uploading Your Video to YouTube

If you have problems uploading your video to YouTube, you can still enter the contest.

  • Simply fill out the Contest Entry Form and check that you are emailing, snail mailing or hand delivering a disk with your entry. Make sure the video is in one of the formats listed above.
  • Then, email your video to entry@oregonschoolchoicecontest.com. To be sure that we can receive your large video file, you can send it through the free site www.yousendit.com. Just fill in your email address, send to entry@oregonschoolchoicecontest.com, and in the comment section give us your contact info and mention that you filled out the Contest Entry Form here. If you can’t use email, then mail a disk with your video or bring it to our offices, anytime Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm.

  • You are responsible for submitting your video in a usable format. If you have not received an email within five (5) days confirming your entry, it is your responsibility to check with the Sponsor to determine if the Sponsor did not receive or could not access your video. The Sponsor is not responsible for any loss or damage if the Sponsor does not receive a usable version of your video by the contest deadline of 11:59pm (Pacific Time) on March 25, 2009. To make sure you meet the deadline, you are strongly urged to submit your video at least five days prior to the deadline.
  • After you have made your video and uploaded it to YouTube, submit your complete information on this Entry Form so we can enter you in the contest. If you have not received an email within five (5) days confirming your entry, feel free to contact the sponsor at contact@oregonschoolchoicecontest.com.
